Sk8clothing.com was started as an idea in May 2007. Living in Newfoundland we have always lacked variety in purchasing skateboard apparel. So like most people, we turn to the internet to purchase what we cannot find locally. Most small communities across Canada do not have local skate stores and are forced to buy their favourite brands online. The majority of online skateboarding stores are located in the United States which can mean long lead times for the customer, unfavourable exchange rates, and custom charges at the border. Therefore, Mike Antle, the founder of Sk8 Clothing noticed this void in the Canadian online market for skateboard apparel and saw an opportunity to fill it....Sk8 Clothing was born.
It was a rocky start because all skateboard clothing suppliers in Canada would only deal with store fronts, which means you're required to have a retail store space to become a customer. This went against the ideology of Sk8clothing .com, which is to be a 100% online to keep overhead costs low in order to offer our customers the best price possible. A few months later we located a wholesaler in the United States willing to supply apparel to our shop. They offered a few core brands like Zoo York, Shorty’s, and World Industries. In October of 2007 we opened our webpage to the public and started to fill orders across the globe. At the time, our supplier’s focus was more towards hard goods then soft goods and if we were going to stay in business we needed to find more suppliers. In late 2008 we proved ourselves worthy and hooked our first Canadian supplier for etnies America, etnies girl, eS, and Emerica. In September 2009 we signed with DC Shoes Canada. We are very excited to join the DC family and in June 2010 we will receive our first big order which is their fall and winter apparel line. In January 2010 we were able to lock down LRG as a new supplier for Sk8 Clothing and we will be carrying their fall line starting in June.
