Eric Koston

  1. Introduction to Eric Koston:

The legendary achievements of Eric Koston have led to him being dubbed the "Michael Jordan" of skateboarding. Known for his smooth style, technical skills, and innovative approach to skating, Koston has become one of the most influential skateboarders of all time. His contributions to the sport both on and off the board have solidified him as a true icon in skate culture.

  1. Early Years and Rise to Fame:

Eric grew up in San Bernardino, California. He started to skateboard in 1986 at the age of 11 years old when his brother gave him his old skateboard. He picked up skateboarding quickly and later went to a skate camp where he met Eddie Elguera, who realized his potential as a professional skateboarder. He was 15 when we dropped out of school to become a full time skateboarder.

In 1992, Koston moved to Los Angeles where Natas Kaupas got him into the 101 team. In 101, he established himself as a leading switch stance skateboarder. He was finally sponsored and became a pro-skater in 1993 when he joined the H-Street Team.

  1. Impact on Skateboarding:

Koston's impact on skateboarding cannot be overstated. He brought a new level of technicality and creativity to street skating that pushed boundaries and inspired countless other skaters around the world.

In addition to his impressive skills on a skateboard, Koston also played a significant role in shaping skate culture. He’s one of the masterminds behind the S.K.A.T.E. invitational event, a skating contest also known as the "éS Game of Skate," where riders try to land each other's tricks in succession until all, but one player is eliminated. The rules of the challenge were inspired by the H.O.R.S.E. game played by basketball players.

History of the iconic Koston2 shoe

1997 - The one that started it all. The K1 was designed by Don Brown, and remains one of the best signature skate shoes ever. eS re-released it a few years later as the EK-01, updated with their System G2 gel cushioning. Lakai revived the design when Koston signed with them in 2007, a Nike version would be welcome as well. Today eS offers a re-issue the this iconic shoe: One Nine 7.

1998 - The K2 was the second pro model for legendary skateboarder Eric Koston under the eS brand. With Koston's vast knowledge and experience in skateboarding, he collaborated closely with eS to create a shoe that would cater to his specific needs and style. The result was an innovative design that combined both form and function. It's said to be the first skate shoe to feature an EVA midsole. One of the most notable features of this shoe is its unique lacing system. The hidden lace loops provided optimal lace protection while giving the shoe a very nice aesthetic appeal.
